Urgent Appeal: Support Needed for Veteran RFPA Member and His Wife

Dear RFPA Community,

We urgently seek your assistance for Mahendra Blackman, a Vietnam Veteran and a dedicated 28-year veteran of the NSW Police Force, including service with the Highway Patrol in the Tweed Heads area. https://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/nsw/tweed-heads/retired-police-recognised-for-work/news-story/7d183ca3a27c53afdd089650e2e57531

Mahendra and his wife, Gina, were on a long-planned dream cruise along the coast of Canada and Alaska when an unexpected medical emergency struck.

Gina suffered a heart attack during their voyage, requiring emergency surgery in Anchorage, Alaska. Tragically, a few days later, she also had a stroke. Gina is now undergoing treatment, and due to her condition, she cannot travel. Although they had travel insurance, the heart attack was deemed a pre-existing condition, leaving Mahendra responsible for all medical expenses, including hospital accommodation.

In a heartwarming display of camaraderie, fellow RFPA Members Donna and Garry Thompson—also on an Alaskan cruise—volunteered to visit Mahendra and Gina during their short stopover in Anchorage. Their support exemplifies the true spirit of the Blue Family and the RFPA Welfare charter. Thank you, Garry and Donna, for your compassion and solidarity.

We understand the challenges faced by any couple dealing with medical emergencies abroad, especially the mounting medical bills. To assist Mahendra and Gina, Gina’s sister, Silva Bond, has set up a “gofundme” page titled “Bring Gina Back Home.” You can contribute directly at this link. https://www.gofundme.com/f/gina-bond

Let us rally together as a community to support our fellow RFPA members in their time of need. Every contribution matters, and together, we can make a difference for our colleague.
