        SOUTH COAST:

South Coast Branch has been busy this year commencing in February with a Luncheon Meeting at the Shoalhaven Heads Bowling Club and attended by Paul & Kay Bounds, Bob & Marie Groenestein, Bob & Gail Williamson, Paul & Jill Hawkins,Dave & Jenny Dawson, Paul Rutledge, Mick Rigg, Robyn Eggins & John Crockett.

A visit to the RAN Fleet Air Arm Museum at HMAS Albatross recently saw members enjoy a few hours browsing through numerous displays of all types of aircraft and equipment. Some even attempted to fly in the ‘simulator’ helicopter with varying degrees of success. An enjoyable day was had by all, particularly in light of the inclement weather outside the museum April weather provided a fine and sunny day for a Picnic/Boating Day at Greenwell Point and on the Shoalhaven River. Feeling too indulged to cook a BBQ for lunch, most members enjoyed a lunch of fish & chips from the famous Pelican Rocks Cafe.

In May we held our annual visit to Sussex Inlet where we held a meeting at the ExServicemens Club followed by 'Chinese' lunch from the bistro. A great day was had by all and a fine hot day meant the drive to and from Sussex Inlet was very pleasant. Attending were Bob & Gail Williamson, Frank & Linda Cummings, Helen Waldron, Margaret Ford, Paul & Rhonda Rutledge, Bob & Marie Groenestein, Mick Rigg, Tom Turner, Ron & Jeanette Akhurst, Dave & Jenny Dawson, Robyn Eggins and John Crockett.

Apologies were received from Wayne & Kim Adams, Alan & Lucielle Harding, John & Jill Windsor, Rev. David Valentin, Maureen Dennett, Bill & Kerry McDonnell, Judy Rigg, Helen Boyd, John & Kim Rudd, Bill Ralph, Paul & Jill Hawkins, Patricia Durrant, Vicki Saker and Colleen Norris

Congratulations to RPA South Coast Branch member Vicki Saker who successfully completed the three day Sydney to Canberra Police Remembrance Bicycle Ride. The ride commenced on 28 April at the Police Remembrance Wall at the Domain Sydney and finished at the Remembrance Wall in Canberra and raised funds to support Police Legacy.

Vicki also completed the ride last year and states “The ride was long and hard, but the most rewarding experience when I rode into Commonwealth Park, with 170 riders, to the wall of Remembrance and well worth the pain and elements for such a great cause”. We look forward to an opportunity to support Vicki and Police Legacy in the future. Picture taken at the Chapel, NSW Police Academy. In that picture is the notation of Vicki’s paternal uncle’s death on duty, 11 May 1964. Allan SHAW, died in a motor vehicle accident in pursuit of a stolen vehicle.
