We’ve been to Muree Golf Club, Club Macquarie and Charlestown Bowling Club over the last three months, and have been very well catered for as usual at these premier locations. They are all on our regular list and we look forward to future events there.

First meeting this quarter is at the East Maitland Bowling Club for the annual ‘all you can eat’ Championships. There are several new contenders, even though our reigning Champion, Jack SMITH, has passed on.

Second Tuesday in June at 11am if you think you can do it, or just arrive for a couple of hours of camaraderie (and occasional fibs).

Christmas in July has again been arranged by Bob GRAY with the management of Kurri Kurri TAFE. Included as usual, for minimal cost, is the terrific three course Xmas Dinner, along with the much-awaited annual examination of their Winery. Due to our regular attendance, we are all able to watch the progress of the maturing vintages, including the enigmatic ‘Lizard Liqueur’ from their Mudgee source. It has managed to interfere with the balance of some pretty shrewd wine connoisseurs over the last few years.

On a sadder note, we have had to lay to rest some of our most ardent followers in past months. We particularly miss the regular company of Ken GIBSON, Norbert SCOTT, Wally GILL, Allen SHAW and Brian SCAYSBROOK, and extend condolences to their families, along with the standing offers of assistance and welcome to our meetings for those left behind.

Welcome to new Members, including the latest, Brad EDWARDS, who joined us at Charlestown last month. If you are thinking of coming along, please do. An extremely short formal meeting, followed by nourishment and stories, would make your Tuesday more interesting.

Retired Police Officers’ Day for both Newcastle and Lake Macquarie Area Commands, is to be held at Club Macquarie, Argenton, at 10am on Thursday 6 September 2018. Please contact Jodi HENDERSON on 49228808 or LMADMIN@police.nsw.gov.au by email to indicate your intention to be there. This is a fair way off, but the next Gazette may not be published prior to then. As information is received regarding Port Stephens Lower Hunter and Hunter Commands, it will be transmitted by email and other means available.
